It’s no secret that we love our body scrubs around here, and with good reason. The right exfoliating scrub can really take your skin, and your self care experience, to the next level. But you might be wondering, what exactly makes for a good body scrub and why do you need (at least) one in your life?
The simplest answer is, exfoliation. As part of your weekly body care ritual we recommend exfoliating with a body scrub, in addition to cleansing and moisturising.
During dry seasons or in a dry climate, the skin can begin to look dull from an excess buildup of dry surface skin. Exfoliation promotes a healthy glow and improves overall skin health by removing dead skin cells and encouraging newer, healthier cells to take their place.
Scrubs are a fantastic way to infuse a little spa luxury into your ordinary shower routine, but they are also very practical. A few of the other amazing benefits of using a body scrub include increased circulation and detoxification for the skin, smoother tone and texture, as well as enhanced ability to absorb hydration from your body moisturiser and other products.
The magic ingredient in any body scrub, that sets it apart from soap or another body wash product, is the exfoliant. Our scrubs are formulated with naturally exfoliating ingredients like Dead Sea salt and sugar, to gently buff away dead skin. Following cleansing, this also works to provide an even deeper cleanse; removing any excess oil, dirt and other impurities that cling to the skin.
Because exfoliating can sometimes strip the skin of moisture, it’s important to look for a body scrub that also contains nourishing ingredients that replace lost hydration. We love coconut oil, which is rich in fatty acids and antioxidants that help fight acne bacteria. Jojoba seed oil is another hydrating and balancing oil that is very similar to our skin’s natural oils and doesn’t clog pores.
We like sweet almond oil as a vitamin-packed botanical oil that helps prevent scarring and stretch marks. And last but not least, vitamin E oil is favourite for protecting the skin from environmental stress and signs of premature aging. Luckily, our scrubs are packed with all of the above and then some.
To get the best results from using a body scrub we recommend exfoliating about 2-3 times per week. You will want to apply a small handful or two of the product to damp skin in the bath or shower. The scrub can also be left on the skin for a few minutes, to really let your skin absorb all of the benefits, before gently buffing it away and rinsing with warm water.
Because exfoliating prepares the pores to absorb moisture, it’s ideal to follow up scrubbing with a good body oil, lotion or butter. This will help lock in hydration, keeping the skin happy, healthy and glowing, all day long.
